March 16, 2026 : The Rajya Sabha on Monday took up discussion on the Appropriation Bill 2026, which seeks to authorise the payment and appropriation of additional funds from the Consolidated Fund of India to meet government expenditure for the financial year 2025–26. The bill was already passed by the Lok Sabha last week.
Opening the debate, Congress member Shaktisinh Gohil raised concerns about the availability of LPG supplies in the country in the context of the ongoing tensions in West Asia and the reported closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route. He cautioned that disruptions in the region could affect energy supply chains and have an impact on domestic fuel availability.
Gohil also highlighted complaints from farmers regarding the mandatory use of nano urea. He alleged that fertilizer dealers are compelling farmers to purchase nano urea along with conventional fertilizers, raising concerns about unfair trade practices and the burden on the farming community.
The Appropriation Bill is an essential financial legislation that allows the government to withdraw funds from the Consolidated Fund of India to meet its expenditure after parliamentary approval.
