Durg Bar Association Elections See 85.5% Voting, Close Contests Expected Across Posts

April 5, 2026 : The elections for the two-year term of the District Bar Association in Durg witnessed a high voter turnout and an energetic atmosphere on Saturday. Advocates turned up in large numbers to cast their votes, reflecting strong engagement in the electoral process.

Out of a total of 1,702 registered voters, 1,454 advocates exercised their franchise, recording an impressive voter turnout of 85.50%. Voting was conducted across six booths set up within the district court premises. Booth-wise voting figures stood at 227 (Booth 1), 276 (Booth 2), 243 (Booth 3), 225 (Booth 4), 239 (Booth 5), and 244 (Booth 6).

A total of 64 candidates are contesting for 17 posts, making the election highly competitive. Throughout the day, candidates actively campaigned and appealed to voters, creating a vibrant and charged atmosphere in the court परिसर. Following the polling, most candidates expressed confidence in their victory, although early indications suggest closely fought contests across all positions.

The counting of votes for office-bearer posts will begin on April 5 at 9 AM, while counting for executive member posts is scheduled for April 6 at 9 AM. Final results will be declared thereafter.

The polling process commenced at 9 AM and continued smoothly until 5 PM at the designated voting center near Bar Room No. 4 in the district court complex.

The election process was conducted under the supervision of Chief Election Officer Rajiv Pandey, with support from Deputy Election Officers Israel Sharif, Murli Manohar Dewangan, Rajesh Mahadik, Shyam Mishra, Harendra Prasad Shah, Aseem Kumar Singh, and other team members.

The elections are being held for key positions including President, Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President (one post reserved for women), Secretary, two Joint Secretaries (one reserved for women), Treasurer, Library Secretary, two Cultural and Sports Secretaries (one reserved for women), and seven Executive Members, of which two posts are reserved for women.

Prominent candidates in the fray include Madhup Sharma, Ramesh Kumar Sharma, Neeta Jain, Sangeeta Singh, Uma Bharti Sahu, Girish Chandra Sharma, Gulab Singh Patel, Devendra Kumar Gupta for President, along with multiple candidates contesting for other key posts such as Dinesh Singh Rajput, Brajesh Kumar Shukla, Chandrakant Chandel, and others.

With high participation and a large number of candidates, the Durg Bar Association elections are expected to deliver tightly contested results, with outcomes to be closely watched by the legal community.
