May 5, 2026 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against three accused, including a doctor from Hyderabad, in connection with an alleged ISIS-linked conspiracy to carry out mass poisoning attacks in public places using a biological toxin.
The chargesheet was filed before a special NIA court in Ahmedabad against Dr. Syed Ahmed Mohiuddin, along with co-accused Azad and Mohammad Suhel, both residents of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the NIA, the accused were acting under the guidance of foreign-based handlers linked to the Islamic State (ISIS). Investigators alleged that the trio worked in a coordinated manner to recruit vulnerable and radicalised youth for jihad-related activities and to spread terror through prohibited weapons and bioterrorism methods.
The agency said the accused had planned to use ricin, an extremely toxic substance derived from castor seeds, as part of their conspiracy. Ricin is classified under Schedule I of the Chemical Weapons Convention due to its lethal nature.
The case was initially registered by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) after Dr. Mohiuddin, an MBBS graduate from China, was arrested in November 2025. He was intercepted at a toll plaza while allegedly carrying illegal weapons, a bottle containing four litres of castor oil, and other incriminating materials in his vehicle.
Subsequent investigation by the Gujarat ATS led to the arrest of the other two accused on the same day. The probe was later taken over by the NIA, which has now filed the chargesheet after completing its investigation.
