West Bengal Notifies 66 OBC Classes After Calcutta High Court Order

May 20, 2026 : The West Bengal Government has notified a list of 66 Other Backward Classes (OBCs) for reservation in state government services and posts following directions issued by the Calcutta High Court.

The state government has also withdrawn the earlier reservation framework that provided 10 per cent reservation for OBC-A and 7 per cent for OBC-B categories.

In a notification issued by the Backward Classes Welfare Department, the government published the list of 66 OBC classes eligible for 7 per cent reservation. The earlier two-category reservation structure has been discontinued.

The notification stated that, in compliance with the Division Bench order of the Calcutta High Court, the OBC list comprising 66 classes included in the State List before 2010 under Article 16(4) of the Constitution of India will continue to remain valid.
