  • NIA Moves Calcutta High Court Over Delay in Beldanga Violence Case Records

    National Investigation Agency | NIA | LawNotify.in

The National Investigation Agency has approached the Calcutta High Court alleging that the West Bengal Police has not handed over the case diary linked to the recent violence in Beldanga in Murshidabad district.

The matter was mentioned before a division bench of Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Chaitali Chatterjee Das. During the hearing, the bench observed that the case had earlier been taken up by a different bench. It clarified that the matter will now be heard next Tuesday by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Partha Sarathi Sen.

The development comes a day after a special NIA court passed a significant order directing the state police to immediately transfer all case-related documents to the central agency. The special court has also directed that the 31 persons arrested in connection with the Beldanga violence be produced in person before it in Kolkata on February 26.

The dispute between the central agency and the state police adds a fresh layer to the ongoing investigation into the unrest, with the High Court set to examine the issue of record transfer in the coming week.
