Chhattisgarh Advocates Get Summer Relief: Black Coat Not Mandatory Till July 15

April 4, 2026 : In view of the intense summer heat, the Chhattisgarh State Bar Council has granted partial relaxation in the dress code for advocates. As per the latest directive, wearing a black coat in court premises will not be mandatory during the summer period.

Senior Advocate Sapan Devangan stated that the decision has been taken in accordance with the rules framed by the Bar Council of India under Section 49(1)(g) of the Advocates Act, 1961, allowing limited exemption in dress requirements.

According to the notification, from April 1 to July 15, 2026, advocates appearing before subordinate courts under the Chhattisgarh High Court will be permitted to attend court without wearing black coats.

However, other aspects of the prescribed dress code will remain unchanged. Advocates must continue to wear a white shirt, band, and other mandated attire, while maintaining decorum and professional dignity.

The move is expected to provide significant relief to advocates across the state, making court appearances more comfortable during peak summer and reducing heat-related health concerns.
