Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh : On the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day, a motivating programme was organised at the Jagannath Prasad Choubey Central Library of Dr. C. V. Raman University. The event featured a curated book exhibition and interactive sessions encouraging students to cultivate regular reading habits.
A wide range of books, including works on great personalities, religion, and academic subjects, were displayed to broaden students’ intellectual exposure. The initiative aimed to reconnect young learners with meaningful reading in an increasingly digital environment.
Presiding over the programme, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pradeep Kumar Ghosh expressed concern over declining reading habits among youth. He observed that short-form digital content is increasingly replacing deep reading. He emphasized that consistent reading is essential, noting that books play a vital role in shaping personality, refining thought, and strengthening writing skills. He also pointed out that renowned thinkers and scholars across history shared a common trait: a strong commitment to reading.
Registrar Dr. Arvind Kumar Tiwari highlighted that books remain the most effective medium for communicating ideas and knowledge. He stressed the importance of developing a sustained reading culture. He also noted that the university has been conducting a “Book Yatra” for the past three years, reaching over 1,000 schools annually to encourage students to read and distributing books to them. According to him, reading is crucial for enriching vocabulary and intellectual depth.
Librarian Dr. Sangeeta Singh delivered the welcome address and elaborated on the enduring importance of books in academic and personal development. The programme saw active participation from faculty members, students, and library staff.
