June 9, 2026 : A Patna court on Tuesday granted interim protection from arrest to noted educator and YouTuber Faizal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, in connection with a criminal case stemming from a firing incident at his coaching institute earlier this month.
The order was passed by the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Patna, while hearing Khan Sir’s anticipatory bail application. The court issued notice to the State government and directed authorities to place the case diary and details of the petitioner’s criminal antecedents on record. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on June 20.
Pending consideration of the anticipatory bail plea, the court directed that no coercive action, including arrest, be taken against Khan Sir. However, it clarified that the investigating agency is free to question him and continue its probe in accordance with law.
The case relates to an incident that allegedly occurred outside Khan Global Studies in Patna’s Musallahpur Hat area on the night of June 2. According to the prosecution, around 15 to 20 individuals gathered outside the coaching institute, allegedly vandalised the premises, pelted stones and assaulted one of the institute’s security guards. Subsequently, videos surfaced on social media purportedly showing security personnel associated with the institute firing shots into the air.
Following the incident, Kadamkuan Police Station registered an FIR under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including attempt to murder, along with offences under the Arms Act. The FIR alleges that the security personnel opened fire at a group creating a disturbance near the coaching centre, allegedly at the direction of Khan Sir and his associates.
On June 4, police arrested two security guards attached to the institute, Deepak Kumar and Talebar Singh, and recovered the firearms allegedly used during the incident. The weapons have been sent for forensic examination, while both guards remain in judicial custody.
Appearing for Khan Sir, Advocate Arvind Kumar Mavvar argued that the firing was an act of self-defence necessitated by an attack on the coaching institute. The defence contended that the security guards acted solely to protect people present on the premises until police arrived and that the firing was not intended to spread fear, panic or public disorder.
During the hearing, the court also considered submissions regarding the ongoing investigation and sought relevant records from the State before deciding the anticipatory bail application on merits.
The incident has triggered a dispute between rival coaching institutions in Patna. Khan Sir has alleged that individuals linked to a competing coaching centre orchestrated the attack on his institute. In contrast, members of the rival institution accused him of staging the episode, citing viral videos allegedly showing firing by the institute’s security personnel. Khan Sir has denied those allegations.
In a related development, a Patna court on Monday reserved its order on the regular bail application of Roshan Anand, director of Gyan Bindu Coaching Institute, who is currently in judicial custody in connection with the alleged assault on a security guard of Khan Global Studies. The court also heard the bail pleas of the two jailed security guards and sought a chronological compilation of evidence collected during the investigation. The matter has been listed for further hearing on June 10.
