Delhi High Court Signals Interim Relief to Ravi Kishan, Likely to Order Removal of AI-Generated Obscene Content

June 2, 2026 : The Delhi High Court on Thursday indicated that it would issue an interim order directing the removal of obscene, pornographic, defamatory and AI-generated online content allegedly targeting actor-politician Ravi Kishan, observing that such material prima facie violates his personality rights.

A Single Judge Bench of Justice Jyoti Singh was hearing a civil suit filed by Ravi Kishan seeking protection of his personality rights against the unauthorized use of his name, image, likeness and public identity across various digital platforms. The suit also sought the removal of AI-generated pornographic videos, defamatory content and other objectionable material allegedly circulated online without his knowledge or consent.

During the hearing, the Court observed that it would direct social media intermediaries, digital platforms and other defendants to immediately remove the impugned content. The Court further indicated that Google would also be required to remove or disable access to identified web links if the original uploaders failed to take down the content within one week of receiving a copy of the Court’s interim order.

Appearing for Ravi Kishan, Senior Advocate N. Hariharan submitted that AI-generated pornographic material, obscene content and derogatory Instagram reels featuring the actor had been widely circulated on the internet without his authorization. The plaint alleged that several defendants were unlawfully exploiting Ravi Kishan’s celebrity status, reputation, name, image and likeness to attract online traffic and generate commercial revenue.

The suit also challenged a radio programme titled “What is Love with Kavi Kishan”, aired on Ishq 104.8 FM, alleging that it commercially exploited the actor’s identity without permission. Ravi Kishan further contended that an AI-generated mock imitation video featuring him remained available on Ishq FM’s official Instagram account, amounting to an infringement of his personality rights.

After considering the submissions, the Court indicated that it would pass a detailed interim order directing the removal of all content found to be prima facie violative of Ravi Kishan’s personality rights and restraining any further unauthorized commercial exploitation of his identity. The matter has been listed for further hearing on October 15.
