Supreme Court Collegium Clears Appointment of 7 Advocates as Judges of Punjab and Haryana High Court

May 5, 2026 : The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the elevation of seven advocates as judges of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana. The decision was taken in its meeting held on 4 May 2026, marking another round of judicial appointments aimed at strengthening the bench.

According to the official statement, the advocates cleared for appointment are Monica Chhibber Sharma, Harmeet Singh Deol, Puja Chopra, Sunish Bindlish, Navdeep Singh, Divya Sharma, and Ravinder Malik.

The appointments come at a time when several High Courts across the country continue to function with vacancies, affecting case disposal rates. The inclusion of these seven names is expected to improve judicial capacity and reduce pendency in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which handles a substantial volume of civil, criminal, and constitutional matters.

The Collegium system, headed by the Chief Justice of India along with senior Supreme Court judges, plays a central role in recommending appointments and transfers in the higher judiciary. Once approved, these recommendations are forwarded to the Union Government for formal notification.

With this latest move, the Collegium continues its ongoing effort to fill judicial vacancies and ensure the effective functioning of constitutional courts.
