June 26, 2026 : Punjab Police’s State Cyber Crime Division has achieved a major breakthrough in its fight against cyber fraud by freezing 63,749 bank accounts linked to online financial scams over the past year. The frozen accounts were associated with fraudulent transactions worth approximately ₹540.34 crore.
According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the State Cyber Crime Division registered 62,253 cybercrime cases across the state during the same period. Since 2024, the police have successfully recovered and returned nearly ₹64 crore to victims of cyber fraud.
The DGP said the large-scale operation has not only helped block fraudulent financial transactions but has also uncovered organised cybercrime networks operating across different parts of the country.
Among the worst-affected regions, Punjab’s NRI-dominated Doaba belt has reported the highest number of cyber fraud cases. Jalandhar topped the state with more than 20,000 bank accounts frozen and over ₹7.30 crore recovered for victims. Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur also witnessed a significant number of cybercrime incidents and financial fraud cases.
Punjab Police stated that its intensified cybercrime enforcement will continue with a focus on dismantling organised fraud networks, tracing stolen funds, and ensuring timely relief for victims.
