June 28, 2026 : Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, Khilawan Ram Rigri, conducted a surprise inspection of Narayanpur Sub Jail to review prison administration and assess the facilities being provided to inmates. During the inspection, he examined security arrangements, sanitation, food quality, drinking water, medical care, and residential facilities to ensure compliance with prescribed standards.
The inspection was attended by Additional District and Sessions Judge, Narayanpur, Jitendra Kumar Thakur, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority Gayatri Sai, Jail Superintendent Sanjay Kumar Nayak, Court Administrative Officer R.N. Nag, Stenographer Abhishek Tiwari, and Panel Advocate Chandraprakash Kashyap.
Justice Rigri interacted personally with inmates to understand their grievances and requirements. He directed the concerned officials to ensure the prompt and lawful disposal of applications and complaints submitted by prisoners. He also informed inmates that eligible persons who are unable to engage a lawyer due to financial or other constraints are entitled to receive free legal aid through the District Legal Services Authority.
During the visit, the inspection team also reviewed prison records, health examination registers, visitors’ registers, sanitation arrangements, and other statutory records. The Principal District Judge instructed the jail administration to ensure full protection of the constitutional and human rights of all inmates and to provide every facility prescribed under government norms in a timely and efficient manner.
He further directed the authorities to maintain a clean and disciplined prison environment, strengthen healthcare services, and give special emphasis to rehabilitation and correctional programmes for inmates. Emphasizing the significance of judicial inspections, he stated that such visits are aimed at safeguarding prisoners’ rights while improving transparency, accountability, and the overall functioning of prison administration. He also instructed officials to regularly monitor all arrangements and ensure the immediate resolution of any issues affecting inmates.
