May 21, 2026 : Navnidhi Sharma, father of deceased former Miss Pune Twisha Sharma, has approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to Twisha’s mother-in-law, retired district judge Giribala Singh, in connection with the case surrounding her death under mysterious circumstances.
The petition challenges the May 15 order of a Bhopal sessions court that granted pre-arrest bail to Giribala Singh. While extending protection from arrest, the sessions court considered her age, 63 years, and the fact that she is a retired judicial officer. The court had also observed that the principal allegations were directed against Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh.
The matter is yet to be listed before the High Court and is expected to come up before a Vacation Bench.
Meanwhile, Samarth Singh has also moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail after his earlier plea was rejected by a sessions court. According to police, he is currently evading arrest.
Twisha Sharma, who was based in Noida, had married Bhopal-based advocate Samarth Singh around five months ago after the two reportedly met through a dating application.
Her family has alleged that she was subjected to continuous domestic violence, cruelty, and harassment by her husband and in-laws. The family has also sought a second post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
An FIR has been registered at Katara Hills Police Station, where police are investigating allegations related to dowry harassment and matrimonial cruelty. Media reports indicate that both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh have been named in the case.
Earlier, Additional District and Sessions Judge Pallavi Dwivedi had rejected Samarth Singh’s anticipatory bail application.
The grant of anticipatory bail to Giribala Singh has also triggered criticism over media interviews allegedly given by her regarding her deceased daughter-in-law.
Samarth Singh is a practising advocate, while Giribala Singh, a retired judicial officer, is currently serving as President of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC).
