Judiciary’s Public Trust Must Be Preserved, Says CJI Surya Kant at Jaipur Seminar

April 25, 2026 : Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Saturday underscored that the judiciary and its allied institutions command deep public trust, and maintaining this confidence is a shared responsibility of all stakeholders. He was speaking at a seminar titled “The Bench Beyond Retirement” held at the Constitution Club in Jaipur.

Highlighting the continuing role of former judges, the Chief Justice said their contribution remains critical to strengthening the justice delivery system. He noted that retired judges can advance legal awareness among citizens and play an important role in conciliation and mediation mechanisms.

He also urged the judiciary and its affiliated bodies, including the National Legal Services Authority and State Legal Services Authorities, to function with greater proactivity and public outreach.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, addressing the gathering, said that landmark judgments of the Supreme Court and High Courts have had a far-reaching impact on citizens’ lives. He encouraged people to explore mediation centres and Lok Adalats as alternatives before initiating formal litigation.

During the event, the Uniform Registration Number System an initiative of the Rajasthan High Court was launched. A compilation of articles authored by former judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts was also released.

The seminar was attended by Acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, members of the Association of Retired Judges, and several judges and judicial officers.
