February 28, 2026 : Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood has welcomed the Delhi High Court’s decision to stay the recent hike in school fees until the 12th of next month, calling it a significant relief for parents across the capital.
In a statement, Sood said the court’s order reflects the government’s firm stand against what he described as arbitrary fee increases by private schools. He said many families in Delhi had been struggling due to sudden and steep hikes in tuition and other charges.
The Minister clarified that no revised fee structure will come into effect until the School Level Fee Regulation Committee is constituted following the next hearing scheduled for the 12th. He said the government will ensure that the committee is formed in accordance with due process and that any future fee revisions are examined under the regulatory framework.
Sood also alleged the existence of a nexus involving the Aam Aadmi Party, certain NGOs, and private school managements, and described the court’s order as a decisive setback to such interests. He added that if any school is found to have collected excessive fees for the 2025–26 academic session, the Directorate of Education will scrutinize the matter and take appropriate action.
According to the Minister, necessary regulations will be enforced immediately after the next hearing to safeguard the interests of students and parents.
