Big political shift in 2026: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Bengal show change

May 4, 2026 : The 2026 assembly election results show that voters in three major states want change. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and West Bengal are all moving away from their usual political patterns.

In Tamil Nadu, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, led by C. Joseph Vijay, has made a big impact. The new party is leading ahead of both Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. This is a major change because these two parties have dominated the state for decades. TVK, formed just two years ago, is now winning even in strongholds of these older parties.

In West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading strongly against the ruling All India Trinamool Congress. The party may form its first government in the state. While Mamata Banerjee is still holding a narrow lead in Bhabanipur, many senior leaders from her party are trailing. The overall trend clearly shows a shift in voter support.

In Kerala, the United Democratic Front, led by the Congress, is set to return to power after ten years. It is ahead of the ruling Left Democratic Front. This likely ends the rule of Pinarayi Vijayan. Leaders like Shashi Tharoor and K. C. Venugopal say people want a new direction. The UDF is leading in most of the state’s seats, and celebrations have already begun.

Overall, the results show that voters in these states are choosing change over continuity.
